Children’s Dentistry in Point Cook

Child at dental examStarting your child’s dental care early can support their long-term oral health. At Sanctuary Lakes Family Dental, we make that experience a genuinely positive one, with gentle care, a welcoming environment, and a team experienced in working with children and helping them feel more comfortable from the very first visit.

First Visits, Lasting Foundations

We recommend bringing your child in for their first dental appointment at around 18 months of age. Early visits aren’t about doing a lot; they’re about building familiarity. A small child who gets to explore the chair, meet the team, and leave with a reward starts to understand that the dentist is a comfortable, friendly place. That sense of calm builds over time, making every visit easier as they grow.

What Children’s Dentistry Covers

Children’s dental care covers the full range of oral health needs from infancy through to the teenage years, including:

  • Monitoring the development of both the baby and permanent teeth
  • Decay prevention, fissure sealants, and fluoride applications
  • Fillings and restorations for damaged or decayed teeth
  • Orthodontic assessment and early intervention
  • Oral hygiene education for children and parents
  • Building positive associations with dental care for anxious little ones

A Warm Welcome for Every Young Patient

From the moment your child walks through the door of our clinic, the experience is designed with them in mind. We have TV screens to help little ones stay relaxed during their appointment, and children leave with a hygiene kit to take home. First-time patients also receive a special certificate to mark the occasion.

Our team takes a gentle, unhurried approach with every child. We talk through what we’re doing, move at the child’s pace, and encourage parents to be involved throughout. The goal is to make every child feel comfortable and at ease, so coming to the dentist becomes a normal, no-fuss part of life.

Building Healthy Habits at Home

The best dental health starts at home. Begin cleaning your baby’s gums with a soft cloth before their teeth come through, and introduce a soft toothbrush with a smear of low-fluoride toothpaste as soon as the first tooth appears. Brush twice a day and make it a routine; let them pick their toothbrush or brush alongside you so they can follow your lead.

Limit sugary snacks and drinks between meals, since the frequency of sugar exposure drives decay more than the total amount. Water and milk are the best drink choices for young children. Bring any concerns along to your appointment; the earlier something is picked up, the more options there are to address it.

Making Care Accessible: Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule

Eligible children aged 0 to 17 may have access to up to $1,132 in benefits for basic dental services over two consecutive calendar years through Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). To qualify, your child must be enrolled in Medicare, and either they or your family must receive an eligible government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A.

Sanctuary Lakes Family Dental participates in the CDBS, covering services including examinations, X-rays, cleans, and fillings. Check your eligibility through your myGov account, or chat with our team when you book.
